Red Carpet-Worthy Jewellery

The red carpet sizzled at the 82nd annual Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7th, and it wasn’t just the big names, it was the exciting fashions that helped make this year’s Oscars celebration so memorable.  We paid extra close attention to the jewellery and saw so many wonderfully accessorized ensembles, thanks to some well chosen and well worn gems and jewels. The trends this year were vintage inspired earrings and stacked bracelets.  We had a look at our extensive collection of vintage, estate and fine jewellery and we have found some items that really represent the style of the 2010 Oscars.

Amanda Seyfried captured the youthful debutant look with her princess gown, but also showed off her sophisticated taste by wearing stacked bangles in cognac, champagne and mint-coloured diamonds (Lorraine Schwartz).  In keeping with her colour scheme, we chose these lemon citrine and prasiolite bracelets in yellow gold and this fabulous cognac-coloured vintage glamour bracelet.

Best actress nominee Carey Mulligan embellished her exposed neck and jaw-line (thanks to her adorable pixie haircut!)  with these 19th century pendant earrings (Fred Leighton).  We found fantastically flashy vintage chandelier earrings which we think capture a similar boldness.  These bow-motif diamond and platinum earrings “tie-in” nicely with this trend.

Zoe Saldana’s blockbuster Avatar might not have made a huge splash at the awards, but her violet gown certainly did.  She also made quite a statement with her large oval amethyst cocktail ring (80 carats!) by Lorriane Schwartz.  We have a wide selection of amethyst rings and we are loving both this oval cabochon and this cushion cut and diamond embellished stunner.

Sarah Jessica Parker also led the stacked bangle trend, wearing platinum, diamond and sapphire 1950s bangles on her wrist (Fred Leighton).  We found this grouping of vintage glamour bracelets which we think creates a similar effect.  This sapphire and diamond bracelet and retro floral earrings also play off of Ms. Parker’s fabulous look.

Kate Winslet’s custom designed Art Deco inspired Tiffany’s yellow diamond necklace got everyone talking, both for its beauty and its $2.5 million price tag!  We thought our rubellite, diamond and platinum pendant, also in the red hot Art Deco style, is just as eye-catching. The geometric diamond setting and flash of colour is what makes this piece so phenomenal.
