The Earrings Draw!

Yesterday was the final day of our contest. Right before we were going to draw all the names (compiled the old-fashioned way, by writing down all the names and literally pulling them from a bag) and old friend of Cynthia’s walked in. Tom Hierlihy is no ordinary ghost from the past. His Uncle worked for the people who bought Marich’s Country Store in Bristol New Brunswick after it’s second-generation owners, Cynthia’s parents, retired. Tom’s uncle eventually took ownership of the business and re-named it Sally’s House of Gifts , named for his daughter.  When Tom and his wife walked through the door, we knew the coincidence was too good to be true and, in honour of shared retail history, he agreed to pull the draw.

Congratulations to Megan Lee and MarkD1952 (trip advisor alias)! We look forward to seeing you and presenting your prize.

We really appreciate everyone who contributed to our contest. Just for participating, we would like to give you a $25 gift certificate to Toronto Antiques on King. Visit the store, we will check your name off our master list and you will receive a $25 store credit towards any in-store purchase (Valid from December 27th to February 1st).

The Making of a Christmas Card

One of the freelance stylists who rents props from Toronto Antiques on King, Carolyn Souch, agreed to send us some “in action” shots of the making of her Christmas card. These pictures remove the smoke and mirrors from styling to reveal the ticks and talents of the trade. (So that’s how they get the duck so brown!?) Most of the props used in this shoot, including the blue and white platter, come from Toronto Antiques on King.

"This is how we 'ruff' in teh shot. The food is called a stand in and is not the finihed product. The 'stand in' food helps the photographer get an idea of how the shot will look.

"More set up shots. In the back you can see the screen which shows the framing of the shot."

"Camera view of rough"

"The food stylists cook the duck then browns it with a heat gun to give it an even brown tone"

"Beautiful Duck L'orange"

"Food stylist spraying food with water to give it a bit of shine"

"Beautiful French cheese and charcuterie"

Steven and Chris

At Toronto Antiques on King we are always happily surprised by the way decorators incorporate our inventory into decor schemes. For example, who would have know that  1960’ s Lucite, made in France, could fit perfectly with this 1920`s French inlayed table? And who would have known to put a basket of pool balls on top of Louis Vuitton trunks? We are immeasurably inspired with the way that Lisa Worth used these items on the November 30th Steven and Chris segment. In total, Worth borrowed the Napoleon figure, the letter box sitting on top of the writing desk, the writing desk, the bud vase on the desk, the Lucite chair, the Louis Vuitton trunks and the wire basked with the pool balls.
